AnejaculationDefinition of anejaculationAnejaculation is defined as the inability to ejaculate. This can either be with orgasm (orgasmic) or without orgasm (anorgasmic).Orgasmic men with anejaculation, usually have an orgasm that feels normal, but they do not ejaculate. Absence of ejaculation can occur in men with anejaculation, but also in men with retrograde ejaculation. In order to distinguish between the two, a urine sample is taken soon after sexual climax and the analysis checks for sperm in the urine. If sperm is found the diagnosis is retrograde ejaculation and if sperm is not found the diagnosis is anejaculation. Contributing factors of anejaculationThe causes of anejaculation, include: 1. Sexual Inhibition/Psychological issues, such as:
2. Physical Causes, such as:
3. Pharmacological, drugs may interfere with the ability to ejaculate/orgasm Treatment of anejaculationIf you are experiencing anejacultaion consult your GP or doctor for a physical check to exclude physical causes. Anejaculation due to partial blockage of the urethra can be treated with surgery, but this is uncommon. Additionally, infections, such as prostatitis, can be treated. However, if fertility is not an issue, no medical treatment may be needed. If fertility is an issue in order to collect sperm, it may be necessary to conduct a testicular biopsy or to use a vibrator or electrical stimulation. Additionally, when a man is concerned about not being able to ejaculate or when a man suffers from sexual inhibition or psychological issues, which may influence anejaculation, counselling may be suggested in order to discuss their concerns. |
